Just this week our Event Committee met for the first time to discuss our event that will be taking place at the swanky downtown Boston W Hotel on July 21st from 8pm to 11pm. Everyone mark your calendars!

It is an evening intended for celebrating CWS’ successes thus far, while also expanding our community and building our fellowship program. It will be a great night filled with some amazing speakers, awards, auction items, music and dancing! More information, including where to purchase your tickets, to come by next week!

Join CWS’ 2nd Annual Give A Day Program!

Give a Day on March 16 – and earn a 30% match!

Community Water Solutions is reaching out to our friends and supporters because on March 16, our partner Global Giving offering a 30% match on all donations up to $1,000 per donor to CWS made through the Global Giving website.

We’d like to use this special opportunity to invite you to join our second annual “Give-a-Day Program!” You can make an immediate positive impact on the health and prosperity of rural village communities in Africa by contributing your compensation from a day of work.

By Giving a Day, you’ll have a chance to participate in the hard work and team spirit that our partners and colleagues at CWS enjoy week in and week out.

Here’s what the CWS team in Ghana can achieve in a day:

  • Amina, who operates the treatment center in Gbong, can produce 400 liters of clean, safe drinking water for her village
  • Peter, a CWS Project Manager, can educate 50 households on water health & safety
  • Soufoo, our Chief Engineer, can build a new treatment center using cement, sand, and other supplies from the market in Tamale
  • Shak, another CWS Project Manager, can distribute safe storage containers to an entire village

What can you achieve in a day?

By contributing your compensation from a day at your regular work, combined with the 30% match from Global Giving, you’ll be moving us closer to our goal of eradicating the need for safe drinking water in Northern Region Ghana. We’d be thrilled to have you join us!

Fit Girls Support CWS

One of the awesome new village sponsors that committed to raising money for CWS at the Medfield Fundraiser, was the Medfield Fit Girls, led by Fit Girls founder, Sarah Nixon. Fit Girls is a fitness program for girls in 4th and 5th grade that uniquely combines training for a 5k race with reading and community outreach. Each year, the Fit Girls choose a charity to support, and this year they chose CWS!

The Medfield Fit Girls launched their Safe Water Campaign last week and sent us a few pictures from their first meeting! We are so grateful for their support and so excited to be partnering with such an awesome organization! Thank you Fit Girls, we’re looking forward to working with you this spring!

Do Something Awards!

Yesterday, I received this exciting email:

Kate,
A nomination was submitted on your behalf for the 2010 Do Something Awards.  After reviewing your nomination we want to encourage you to complete the Do Something Awards application. www.dosomething.org/awards

The Do
Something Awards identifies exceptional young (25 and under) social entrepreneurs, activists, and community leaders who have made a significant social impact. Do Something Award nominees and winners are the pivotal “do-ers” in their fields and causes.  Five nominees will be rewarded with a $10,000 community grant, participation in a live VH1 TV show, media coverage and continued support from DoSomething.org. The grand prize winner will receive $100,000 during the live broadcast.
We have received over 600 nominations, but so far have only recommended 30 of those nominated move to the next step and fill out the award application.   While I cannot guarantee that you will be selected as a Do Something Awards Finalist or Nominee,  I can guarantee that your application will be reviewed in the internal semi-finalists selection round (typically about 60 out of 700 applications make it to this round).
THANK YOU to whoever nominated CWS for this awesome award! We are honored to be considered!
