Yariga Bator
Yariga Bator has been home to Celestine, Naomi, and Aku for more than two decades, raising their families in the sparsely populated and remote Krachi East village. The village is located North-East of the capital (Dambai) where they have shared their source of water with their livestock. Much like the other families in remote, rural villages in northern Ghana, the families of Yariga Bator have faced a water crisis for decades. For women like Celestine, Naomi, and Aku who collect water for their households, having access to clean affordable water is life changing for themselves and their children, and the entire community as a whole.
With the opening of the Saha Simple Water Treatment System in their community in January 2023, Yariga Bator residents now have access to safe and affordable water. Celestine, Naomi, and Aku are paid to run the center, ensuring the water is treated properly and the center is open at convenient hours for their customers. Yariga Bator’s village chief encourages residents to drink clean water, emphasizing how it helps people live long, healthy lives. The Water Service Point serves Yariga Bator’s 101 residents with little to no disruption. Saha’s Service Delivery Team delivers supplies to the Water Service Operators, monitors water quality, and assists when repairs are needed.
